Most art education shows you the clean version: confident strokes, a sped-up timelapse, a finished piece. But there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface of great character design.
It’s about making dozens of small decisions—shape, anatomy, pose, costume, story, reference, personality, function—and knowing how to push, edit and resolve those decisions until the character actually works.
Learning how to make those choices with intention is what turns a good-looking character into valuable concept art.
Over two full days, we’ll take multiple characters from blank canvas to finished concept art, live and unedited.
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
You’ll work alongside me, ask questions as they come up, and see the whole process unfold in real time. You’ll see where I get stuck, what I throw out, what I rethink and how I work my way through it. Every reference I pull, you’ll see on screen.
Day 1 | Design and Drawing
Using a complete pro workflow, we’ll go from blank canvas to fully fleshed out concepts and poses. We'll work across multiple characters, types, and genres: research, reference, shape design, poses, anatomy, faces and visual storytelling.
Day 2 | Painting
On day 2 we’ll transform our designs into fully rendered final pieces, covering everything from skin tones to clothing and gear. We’ll work through the decisions that turn a good drawing into a high-value portfolio piece—painting characters with style, realism and drama.
Throughout both days, we’ll be talking about portfolio and career—with the kind of guidance I give my mentorship students.
